Jonathan Collins has over 20 years of martial arts experience and training. He began his study with several styles of Japanese karate including Karate-Jutsu, Kyokushin Karate, Shotokan Karate, and Iishin Ryu Karate. After several years of studying the striking arts, Jonathan began training in the grappling arts to augment his skills. His grappling training includes Judo, Shin Shin Jujutsu, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Recognizing the effectiveness of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jonathan decided to dedicate the majority of his training toward the art, having attained the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt. He spent several years under the guidance of Master Relson Gracie at the famed Relson Gracie Academy in Honolulu, Hawaii. He has also had the opportunity to be beaten up and receive instruction by some of the most notable instructors and fighters during his travels, including during his time living and training in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Jonathan has had the opportunity to test his skills on the mats, in the ring, and in the street while working for several years as a bouncer at different late night bars in his home town.

In addition, Jonathan has served 20 years with the United States Military and completed several tours of duty in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR). Jonathan has been trained in the Special Operations Combatives Program (SOCP), small arms, heavy weapons and tactics by some of the military’s finest instructors.

Jonathan enjoys passing on his knowledge and experiences in the martial arts as well as coaching others in the basics of shooting and marksmanship. Jonathan does not consider himself an expert, but rather always a student having ample room to grow and learn. It is always his hope that he can help people with the knowledge that he passes along and that he can also learn something from those he teaches.
